There’s something special about families who embrace the unexpected, and Kennadi, Korbin, and their two-year-old son Brooks did exactly that during their recent session.

As we arrived at our location, the skies opened up and the rain began to fall. Many families might have chosen to reschedule; but this sweet crew looked at the weather, laughed, and decided “We’re already here - let’s just go for it!”

What followed was one of those sessions that proves perfect weather isn’t required to create beautiful memories.

Set against the rolling hills and gravel roads of rural Iowa, the rain added a moody, romantic feel to the entire evening. Recently married at the courthouse, Kennadi and Korbin wanted to capture not only their new chapter as husband and wife but also the family they’ve already built together.

The mood and emotion of this session felt so timeless that I ultimately chose to present the entire gallery in black and white. Without color competing for attention, the focus shifts entirely to the connection between Kennadi, Korbin, and Brooks - the laughter, the quiet moments, and the love they share. The dramatic skies, wet grass, and soft rain created a romantic atmosphere that black and white imagery only enhances. There’s something beautifully nostalgic about these photographs, as if they could have been captured yesterday or twenty years from now, preserving this chapter of their story in a way that feels both classic and deeply emotional.

Of course, the real star of the show may have been Brooks.

At just two years old, he wasn’t the least bit concerned about the rain. Instead, he spent the evening doing exactly what little boys do best - rolling down grassy hills in his white shirt, collecting muddy rocks from the gravel road, and exploring every inch of the countryside. His carefree spirit and endless curiosity brought so much joy and authenticity to these images.

Some of my favorite moments happened when no one was trying to be perfect. Muddy hands, wet clothes, big laughs, and genuine smiles told the story of this family far better than any posed portrait ever could.

The weather may not have cooperated, but somehow the rain gave us exactly what we needed. The result was a gallery full of emotion, connection, and beautifully images that capture who Kennadi, Korbin, and Brooks are right now - a family embracing life’s adventures together; rain and all.
