Ledges State Park Senior Pictures | Boone, Iowa Senior Photographer

If you’re looking for a senior picture location that’s a little different from the ordinary.. Ledges State Park near Boone, Iowa is one of my favorite locations. Between the towering sandstone cliffs, historic stone bridge, wooded trails, shallow creek, and seasonal wildflower fields - it’s a location that offers an incredible amount of variety in one beautiful park.

Olivia’s senior session is still one I love looking back on because every part of Ledges brought something unique to her gallery. We wandered through the park, stopping anywhere the light caught our eye - from the iconic stone bridge to the crystal-clear, shallow water that winds through the valley. The peaceful creek creates such a fun, adventurous atmosphere, especially for seniors who don’t mind getting their feet a little wet!

One of my favorite things about photographing at Ledges is how many different looks we can create without ever leaving the park. In a single session, you can have dramatic portraits framed by towering rock formations, classic images on the historic stone bridge, soft portraits surrounded by lush greenery, playful moments in the creek, and, when the timing is right, beautiful photos in a field of blooming wildflowers. It truly feels like visiting several locations in one evening.

I especially love recommending Ledges to seniors who enjoy the outdoors or simply want something that stands out from the more traditional photography locations around Southwest Iowa. The scenery changes throughout the seasons, making every session feel unique while still showcasing the natural beauty that makes this park so special.

Even though Olivia’s session was photographed a few years ago, these images continue to remind me why I’d love to photograph more seniors here. Ledges State Park is one of those places that never gets old, and every visit offers something a little different.
