WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU TO A NEWBORN SHOOT

What to Bring to a Newborn Photo Shoot (Simple Checklist for Parents)

If you’re preparing for a newborn photoshoot, you don’t need to bring much-but a few essentials can make the experience smoother, more comfortable, and more relaxed for both baby and parents. Newborn sessions are slow-paced and baby-led, so the focus is always on keeping your little one calm, cozy, and content.

Here’s a simple guide on what to bring with you to your newborn photography session.

Feeding Supplies

Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, plan to feed your baby during the session. A well-fed newborn is usually sleepier and more settled, which helps create those soft, peaceful images. Bring bottles, formula, pump or anything you typically use for feeding, plus a burp cloth for easy clean-up. Bring more than you expect baby to normally eat - they tend to eat more often during newborn sessions.

Diapers, Wipes & Changing Essentials

Newborns go through diapers quickly, so it’s best to bring more than you think you’ll need. Pack diapers, wipes, and a changing pad if you prefer using your own. These small essentials help keep the session running smoothly with minimal interruptions.

Pacifier (Optional but Helpful)

Even if your baby doesn’t regularly use a pacifier, it can be useful during a newborn photo session for soothing between poses or transitions. It often helps keep babies calm and settled without disrupting the flow of the shoot.

Personal or Sentimental Items (Optional)

If you’d like, bring meaningful items such as a special blanket, heirloom piece, or family keepsake. Incorporating personal touches can add emotional depth and storytelling to your newborn photos.

Comfort Items for Parents

Newborn sessions can take time, with plenty of feeding and soothing breaks. Bringing snacks, water, and anything that helps you feel comfortable is always encouraged. You’re welcome to relax while your baby is gently posed and photographed. You can even order lunch in and eat while I'm photographing baby.

Patience & Flexibility

The most important thing to bring is patience. Every newborn is different, and sessions are always guided by your baby’s needs. We never rush or force poses-beautiful images come from calm, natural moments.

Big Siblings Coming Along?

If you plan to have older siblings along for your session; please bring snacks, drinks and entertainment for them as well. Favorite toys, favorite movies, etc can be very helpful at keeping them busy during what can be a long session.

Planning Your Newborn Photography Session

If you’re preparing for a professional newborn photoshoot, the goal is simple: keep things relaxed and let your baby lead the way. With just a few basics packed, you can focus on enjoying the experience while timeless images are created.
